Trabant P50.1 - front rightThe Trabants are relicts from the German unification. This particular Trabi was owned and driven by an East German master mechanic until 1990 when he replaced it with a Western ride. It has been in dry storage since then and only driven occasionally, but it still runs and drives.

The car is in remarkably good unrestored condition. The body consists of a type of plastic made from Russian cotton and resin - think of it as a communist Corvette. It is pretty light weight and gets up to more than 60 mph despite only having a 21 hp engine.

This is your chance to own a ride that none of your buddies has and also put a piece of East German automobile history into your garage. The original East German title comes with the car! I have yet to see one of these at Carlisle (though there was a fairly similar West German Lloyd Alexander at the show a few years ago). The price is $1000 firm and I can help with transport logistics. Transatlatnic RoRo shipping to East Coast ports is very affordable; in fact, it is cheaper than trucking a car across country inside the United States. The car is still located in Northern Germany.
